How long does a counselling session last and how much are your fees?
| A standard counselling session lasts from 50 to 60 minutes. (Some clients, especially in couple’s or family sessions, prefer to extend our sessions to 80 to 90 minutes). More details can be seen by clicking the “View Our Rates” buttons on our Personal Counselling page.

How many counselling sessions will I need?
| The number of sessions depends on your specific goals and history. Short-term counselling for situational struggles typically requires 6 to 12 sessions, while deep-rooted issues, such as complex trauma and depression may require longer-term therapy.
Is everything I say in counselling confidential?
| Yes, counselling is completely confidential. However, there are limits to confidentiality, which apply if there is a significant risk of harm to yourself or others, or if a court orders the release of records. We adhere to the confidentiality guidelines as published in the Singapore Association for Counselling (SAC) Code of Ethics, as displayed on their website.

Can I use my health insurance for counselling sessions?
| Yes. If your (corporate or personal) health insurance plan covers mental health services, it is likely to be limited to SAC Registered Counsellors (an updated list is maintained at their website). Process & Expectations
What should I expect during my first counselling session?
| Your first session is an intake assessment. Your counsellor will ask you to describe your background, current challenges, and therapeutic goals, whilst establishing a comfortable, secure therapeutic relationship.
I don’t know what my goals are. Is this normal?
| Yes, Clients often arrive at their first session without a clear goal in mind. The counsellor’s role is to help you develop these, and you can expect to review them by the end of the second session so you are both aligned in the directions you want to take and which aspects of your life you want to work on as a priority.
How do I know if my counsellor is a good fit for me?
| A good fit means you feel safe, heard, and respected without judgment. Trust your instincts during the first two to three sessions to evaluate if their style matches your needs.
Can I switch counsellors if it is not working out?
| Yes. You have the right to switch therapists at any time. Ethical counsellors welcome honest feedback and will happily provide referrals to a colleague who better fits your personality, needs and goals.
What is the difference between counselling and psychotherapy?
| The terms are often used interchangeably, as psychotherapy is performed by most counsellors. Counselling alone generally focuses on managing specific, short-term issues like life transitions or stress. Psychotherapy delves deeper into chronic psychological patterns, past traumas, and longer-term mental health conditions.

What is the difference between a psychologist, a counsellor, and a psychiatrist?
- Counsellors provide talk therapy for general life stressors and mental health support.
- Psychologists hold degrees in psychology and specialise in psychological testing and treating more complex personality disorders
- Psychiatrists are medical doctors who primarily diagnose conditions and prescribe medication.

Does online counselling work as well as in-person therapy?
| Whilst studies indicate that online video counselling (telehealth) offers similar clinical efficacy as in-person sessions for normal life challenges, many Clients prefer in-person sessions as it feels more intimate. Body language may also provide additional signals to the counsellor as tailor their support to your specific needs.
How does couples and family counselling help relationships?
| Couples and family counselling provides a neutral space to improve communication patterns, resolve recurring conflicts, rebuild trust, and safely navigate relationship challenges.
How do I get over a breakup or death of a partner?
| Recovering from loss of a partner can be very challenging. Receiving therapeutic support through the various stages of loss can help you reach acceptance (where we are no longer emotionally triggered by the loss) much quicker and more completely. We can then look towards building the next phase of our life without feelings of guilt or remorse.
I’m uncomfortable with the idea of sitting in a room with a counsellor. What should I do?
| To combat this issue, and to allow therapy to progress in more relaxed & creative directions, we offer Walk & Talk Therapy (WTT) to our clients. Note that we only offer this service from the 2nd session onwards as we feel the first session should be held in a quiet space so that we can develop the therapeutic relationship in an intimate setting and receive and note down all the background information necessary for the furtherment of the therapy. More details on WTT can be seen on our Personal Services page.
